Homemade Strawberry Jam Recipe

homemade-strawberry-jam

This homemade Strawberry Jam is probably one of the easiest to make and only requires 3 all natural ingredients. The consistency of this is just perfect and the taste is remarkable!

I absolutely love how jello-ey this jam is without using pectin. Pectin is a substance used to set a jam but I believe crushing the strawberries before boiling helps with the thickening, your probably asking how do I know… On my previous attempt of strawberry jam I left them whole and started to crush them after they have boiled. Firstly, they were very hard to crush at that point as the berries got slimy. And my boiling time then took longer than it did on this recipe with the results of the jam not thickening properly. I seriously can not get over how awesome this jam came out and hope it becomes a staple recipe in your home!

homemade-strawberry-jamIngredients:

  • 4 lbs strawberries, washed and stems removed
  • 8 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 lemon, juiced

IMG_2356(TIP: To make the perfect jam regardless the amount of strawberries always try to keep an equal ratio of sugar and berries. For example, for every pound of strawberries you will need a pound of sugar. 1 pound = 16oz and 16oz=2 cups of sugar.)

1. In a large pot, coarsely mash the strawberries.

2. Stir in the sugar and lemon juice; bring to a rolling boil.

3. Once the mixture boils, reduce the temperature to medium heat and cook for 10 minutes. Then reduce the temperature to low and allow to simmer for 20 more minutes stirring occasionally. Mixture should slightly reduce in size and should be at a temperature of 220 degrees F.

4. Pour into clean jars and seal tightly. Allow jars to cool completely at room temperature then keep refrigerated.

    1. I am so sorry Nataly! I did leave out that detail. You would add it along with the sugar addition. I have already revised that error, thank you for asking! And please let me know how your jam turns out:)
