This fish bake is smothered in a creamy sauce and cooked to doneness within 10 minutes. It was shared by Lilia, who mentioned how this recipe was liked by family and relatives. 

You can easily substitute your favorite fish for this recipe and top with a different cheese blend, but I must say shredded monterey jack melts beautifully. Use as much spinach as you can pack into your baking dish because spinach does shrink quite a bit. The results are yummy! This fish would not only work great for a company meal but can easily become one of those make over again dishes!

Creamy-Baked-Tilapia-Spinach-Casserole Ingredients:

  • 5 tilapia fillets (1lb)
  • 8 oz bag of fresh spinach
  • 3 tbsp butter, sliced
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey jack cheese

Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cups grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 tsp old bay seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp adobe seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt

1. Pack spinach onto the bottom of a baking dish. Top with butter slices and layer the fish fillets over the top.

2. Combine the sauce ingredients and evenly spread over the top of the casserole. Sprinkle with cheese and bake in a preheated 500 degree F oven for 10 minutes.

Note: The thicker the fish fillets the longer you may need to bake your fish.

  1. Good recipe. Changed it up a bit by substituting Sriracha mayo for regular. Didn’t have Old Bay or Adobo seasoning so added Korean red pepper seasoning (Shichimi Togarashi) and capers. We enjoy highly seasoned foods and this was really great.

    1. You can certainly substitute the spices. Adobe is an all-purpose seasoning and old bay seasoning can be used for seafood that has paprika and celery salt as some of the ingredients.

  3. Thinking about subbing greek yogurt for mayo or uaing less mayo and more sour cream… I’m not a huge mayo fan. Can’t wait to try

    1. I wouldn’t really say theres a harsh distinctive mayonnaise taste as the sour cream and mayo are a 1 to 1 ratio in this recipe. After baking Im not even sure if you will be able to detect any mayonnaise. But if you strongly prefer to substitute, I would probably just use less of mayo instead of omitting it altogether as sour cream and greek yogurt are both dairy products. Mayonnaise does contain some grease so the results might be slightly different if substituting with something else.

  4. I made this tonight with a couple substitutions…I didn’t have sour cream so I used low fat ricotta, omitted the adobo ( didn’t have any) but added garlic powder and some thyme. I also added a couple tbs of lemon juice. It was so delicious! My children, ages 2-19 all loved it also. It tasted like was eating in a nice restaurant.

  5. This recipe is awesome!! I have had this page open on my desktop for at least a month. I have been wanting to make it and I finally got around to making it tonight. It is excellent!! My husband is still eating it right now and he keeps saying, “Mmmmm!” He really likes the sauce and wants me to try that sauce on some sliced pork loin. This is a very tasty recipe!
